TEACHING GUIDELINES

One who chooses to teach can enjoy the beauty and joy of sharing his knowledge with one who wants to know. To teach means to accept the challenge of helping the student who desires knowledge. This challenge makes one more creative in communicating what one knows. Because one has love for knowledge, one respects and loves each student and accepts the student’s capacity to learn. With such an attitude, there is every chance that both the teacher and the student will gain from their interaction.

When a parent teaches his or her own child, the parent assumes the role of a teacher. As a parent, one has certain ambitions and expectations of one’s child. In her love, a mother may be too protective and too anxious with regard to her own child. A father may impose his desires on the child in order to realise his own unfulfilled dreams. The teacher, on the other hand, does not have these problems, for he or she only wants the student to learn. As a teacher, one is free of other roles, and plays an objective and non-judgemental role in the student’s life. It is important for a parent to be aware of these differences when playing the role of a teacher to one’s own child.
